Getting in front of Japan's retailers
Margins in Japanese retail are thin and inventory moves fast. Retailers and consumer brands read stock and customer data in real time, guard the trust shoppers place in their brands, and want proof that a system performs at scale. Selling to them takes a team on the ground, and that team is StrategyCore.
// The demand
What Japanese retail buyers demand
Real-time inventory and customer data
Stock levels and customer behaviour change by the minute across thousands of stores. A batch report cannot drive the decisions a retailer makes on the floor.
Personalisation at scale
Recommendations and pricing move with demand. Buyers need a data platform that serves millions of shoppers without the latency showing.
Change data capture without downtime
Point of sale and e-commerce run every hour of every day. Moving transaction data into analytics means streaming change data capture, not an overnight batch.
Analytics the business team can read
Merchandising and store managers need the numbers in front of them, not a ticket to the data team. Embedded, white-labelled analytics put insight where the decision is made.
Email and brand protection
Consumer brands are prime phishing targets. DMARC enforcement and BIMI defend the domains customers open.
Governance that protects the brand
The board wants to see how customer data is used at each step. That visibility is what keeps a consumer brand clear of an APPI incident and the headlines that follow.
// The solutioning
Vendors and open source, mapped to the demand
Real-time data platform
SingleStore serves inventory and customer analytics at store and web speed, and PostgreSQL and ClickHouse give retailers an open path out whenever priorities change.
Systems-of-record ingestion
SingleStore Flow, the no-code CDC and batch engine now part of SingleStore, pulls SAP, Oracle, and CRM data into the analytics store. It sits alongside Striim, which handles the real-time streams.
Streaming integration
Striim captures change from point of sale and e-commerce into the analytics platform with no downtime. Debezium and Kafka are the open-source path.
Embedded analytics
Logi puts the analytics in front of merchandising and store teams, white-labelled inside the retailer's own applications.
AI and model routing
Recommendations and demand forecasting run on the retailer's own models over customer data, keeping consumer records within the limits APPI sets on sending them abroad.
Email authentication
Valimail brings DMARC, DKIM, and BIMI to enforcement, so a retailer's sending domains cannot be impersonated.
Sovereign deployment and portability
The whole stack runs where the retailer chooses, on-premise or sovereign, with open-source paths at every layer so nothing locks in.
// Architecture
Reference architecture for retail
How the vendor and open-source pieces fit together in a production stack for a retailer or consumer brand.
Treat this as an indicative reference architecture rather than a fixed blueprint. The components shown are examples, and the real stack depends on the vendors and systems each institution runs. It can be extended or swapped as needed.

The rules your product has to satisfy here
Buyers in this sector are bound by the instruments below. A product wins here only if it can deploy in a way that satisfies them, and that deployment is the part StrategyCore runs.
APPI Article 28 (PPC)
Consumer personal data crossing borders requires consent or an adequacy or safeguard basis.
Telecom External Data Transmission Rule (2023)
Sites and apps in scope must tell users what terminal information cookies and tags send outward, and to whom, by notice or published statement. Consent or an opt-out route are the alternatives.
EU-Japan adequacy, Decision (EU) 2019/419
EU customer data may flow to Japan without standard contractual clauses, under the Supplementary Rules.
Personal data everywhere is governed by APPI Article 28 and the PPC, and EU-facing data falls under the EU-Japan mutual adequacy decision. This is an indicative procurement summary and does not constitute legal advice.
